Principles of Indigenous Education

The Principles of Indigenous Education are a lens through which we plan and see our work. Each one is a short statement of what we value for Indigenous Education at all levels of the organization. Indigenous Education is not just checking off provincial curriculum expectations. If we view curriculum through a culturally relevant and responsive perspective, it is all aspects of the educational environment, which includes everything from the food in the cafeteria to the music on the morning announcements, to the way in which Indigenous parents are greeted in the office.

All schools received a large wooden plaque with the Principles of Indigenous Education. These should hang in a place in the school where students and staff see them regularly.

Our use of the Principles of Indigenous Education guides the work in KPR's Holistic Approach to Indigenous Education.
