Volunteers in Action, Brightening School Days

Tammy Walsh 鈥 Vincent Massey Public School

Tammy Walsh is an outstanding and passionate volunteer who has made a meaningful impact at Vincent Massey Public School.

Described as 鈥渢he Mastermind of the Snack Program,鈥 Tammy dedicates countless hours of her time to shopping for food and supplies, organizing and planning healthy snacks, and soliciting donations within the community for much needed items for the school, such as air fryers and slow cookers. She also promotes inclusion within the school by going out of her way to ensure every student, regardless of any allergies or dietary restrictions, can participate!

鈥淲hen delivering snacks and hot lunches to classrooms, Tammy calls students by name and makes a concerted effort to get to know each of them, students absolutely love her! She has a way of making everyone, staff included, feel valued and special,鈥 shares Jennifer Pym-Murphy, Special Education Resource Teacher and Early Intervention Teacher.聽

In addition to her contributions to the snack program, Tammy鈥檚 friendly and helpful attitude extends into many other school and community initiatives. She is a valued member of the School Council and avid supporter of classroom activities 鈥 she even donated yarn to a class that was learning how to crochet and joined in on some of the fun!

鈥淲e are reminded daily of how wonderful a person she is; her generous and kind heart is undeniable. She is driven, inspiring, and such a phenomenal human being. The Vincent Massey PS community is so very lucky to have her,鈥 says Jennifer.

Lisa Schertzer聽鈥 Dr. Emily Stowe Public School

The students and staff at Dr. Emily Stowe Public School are always happy to see the smiling face of Lisa Schertzer in the hallways, a longstanding volunteer and integral part of the school community for the past 10 years. Lisa is recognized and appreciated for always going out of her way to support a wide range of activities and events at the school.

Some of her many remarkable contributions have included participating on School Council, running Scholastic Book Fairs, handing out pizza lunches, helping with the annual Fun Fair, Track and Field Days, and supporting various fundraising initiatives - even hosting a hot dog lunch to help Grade 8 students pay for their graduation trip!

In addition, Lisa has also volunteered her time scribing during EQAO and decorating for the Grade 8 Graduation.

鈥淟isa is dedicated and committed to making Dr. Emily Stowe a great place,鈥 says Candace Murru, Grade 7/8 Teacher.

鈥淚t is clear she always has student well-being and equity at the heart of her decisions and suggestions,鈥 she adds.
