Also making an impact through their volunteer efforts, are three passionate members of the School Council at Norwood District Intermediate and High School.

Penny Buchanan, Jenn Heffernan and Bernadette Vanderhorst have been instrumental in leading the Hoops Program at Norwood District Intermediate School for the past several years.

This ten-week program invites students in Grades 4 and 8 to develop their basketball and teamwork skills, all while being active and building confidence. This year, Penny, Jenn and Bernadette added a referee clinic to help student coaches develop and enhance their referee skills, and enlisted local talent from the Fleming College basketball team to lead sports drills.

The volunteer-led program also creates mentorship opportunities for high school students who participate through coaching the younger students. 鈥淥verall, these ladies have gone above and beyond, and Norwood is very lucky to have them and the passion they put into supporting the school, and in turn building a stronger community,鈥 shares Darlene Davison, Principal.
